Two days to catch up on!

Yesterday we went from Fishbourne to Dell Quay, a lovely walk that usually has mud, water to splash in, high walls and banks to scramble up, and occasionally fall down! Sometimes there are cows - I'm very scared of them, but there weren't any yesterday. The tide was very high yesterday, and the water was very high so I couldn't splash (I hate swimming), and the mud was all covered up. As a result I got a little bored - no water, no mud, no sticks - so what else can a dog do but bark, and bark, and bark. I was severely told off!!
However, when we got nearer to Dell Quay I finally found mud, it's particularly black and slimy, and very smelly - heaven! The only downside to the day was when a large dog decided to bite me, I'm a complete coward, so I just rolled over and said "If you're going to kill me just do it quickly", but he got bored and ran off - phew!
Today we went to West Dean woods, it was raining, and again a lot of mud. I found lots of pheasants to chase, and also chased and chewed up lots of sticks. It is my favourite place to walk, there are just so many smells there.
When we got to the charcoal burner's camp it looked as if had got a bit confused about what time of year it is - there was a big sun shade set up, and a nice chair under it! But no-one in sight, so I suppose he had given up when he realised it's nearly November, and actually raining!

Mud, water, deer, ducks - all in one walk, what more could a dog want!
Even though I had to sit in the back of the car for 4 hrs it was worth it. Janet and I headed for Oulton Broad to visit her mother. When we got there I shot into the house to find her, I checked every room, but there was no sign of her.  I was told that she is in hospital, so I won't see her this time. However, I still had my usual walk down by the marshes. Down a wooded footpath with a lovely mucky green dyke down one side - I'm not allowed in there, so I usually behave myself until we've crossed the railway line, and then if I'm sneaky I can get down into the water to check for ducks before I get called back (I'm very obedient, mainly because I get a tasty treat!). Yesterday we went right down to the river, and I had an amazing time splashing around trying to get to the ducks and peering under the water for sticks.
Why is it that water gets deep? I must admit that I love water, especially if it's muddy and smelly, but I DO NOT like swimming, so I have to progress very slowly, because - all of a sudden my feet don't touch the ground - PANIC!!!
On the way back I was trotting along quite happily with a stick in my mouth (bliss), when all of a sudden this object came hurtling along the path towards me, it shot of the path across the dyke just before it got to me, I just had time to register that it was a muntjac deer before it disappeared into the rushes. I tried chase it, but it meant swimming across the dyke - how disappointed was I! A second later a large black labrador  rushed round the corner, very upset that his deer had vanished!
Back to Chichester this afternoon - so the woods again tomorrow :)

Not a very exciting day today, I had my usual walk to the park this morning and met Cosmo, Mot, Poppy, Old Jack, Archie and Penny. It was raining so a lot of my friends had stayed at home, and Penny was wearing a silly coat which she does her best to shake off, but today it didn't work. For some reason I didn't have my nice walk this afternoon - I ended up going to the park again. It was a bit of a disappointment, but I let Janet know I was not best pleased by stealing a little boy's stick and making him cry. I wasn't very popular, but it seemed like a good idea at the time!
And just a closing thought - why is it that on the days when I find really tasty morsels my family seem to spend the evening covering their noses with their jumpers?

Hello, I'm Jack. 2 2/3 years old, my mother is an English Springer Spaniel, but I've no idea who my father is - but he must have been a very handsome chap because just look at me!
I've two passions in my life – food and my daily walks.
Today I've had my usual two walks, this morning I went to the park and met my friends (today Billy, Archie, Old Jack, Mot, Cosmo, Sidney, Penny, Lula and Poppy). Once daily greetings have been made, it's time to go and have a good sniff round for any morsels of food that may have been dropped, and then have a bit of running around after my ball, but preferably stealing someone else's ball – which is then mine as far as I'm concerned.
This afternoon I went up to the woods at Goodwood, and met Rufus, Luther and Merry. I had a lovely time - I've discovered that if I bark lots and lots and spin round in very fast circles in front of any of the humans then they will throw me lots of sticks to keep me quiet – I'm not daft! We met another dog called Jack who was being very naughty, he had met a group of children and decided that he would much rather play with them than stay with his human, and then he decided to come and see us –  I think he was in a lot of trouble when he was finally reunited with his human.
Then back home for dinner, and a nice sleep.

My daft springer spaniel

My name is Janet and most of my time seems to spent walking Jack, my very happy dog.

Life has been a little bit crazy since I got my springer spaniel-cross two and a half years ago. Along with the frustrations and exasperation of bringing up a small puppy, I have also found it to be incredibly rewarding (excuse the cliche!) and have had so many laughs, made plenty of new friends and love Jack's doleful company at the end of a day.

Here I will be posting images and sharing stories of totally daft and unpredictable canine through his eyes.
